Hey Brooke! I have a few questions for you.
1.Do you believe that Forney is the guy for Novalee?
2.Do you agree with Novalee's choice of name for her baby girl?
3. Who is Benny Goodluck? Why is he running naked in the forest?
4. Why does Toby have sex with Novalee and then just leave her? What does this signify?
5. Why did Sister Husband not go right to the cellar and instead went to someone else? Why did she find this so important?
6. Why did Novalee kiss Benny Goodluck?
7. Why did Novalee lie to Forney about loving him?
8. Why after everything did Novalee help Willy Jack?
9. How did Lexie overcome her fear of men?
10. Do you think Brummet will ever be the same again?
Thanks
Katie
Hey Katie!
ReplyDelete#1. To answer your questions, yes I do think that Forney would be a good guy for Novalee. He cares a lot about her and it seems as though he truly loves her. This is proved many times throughout the book. For example when Forney makes Novalee a beautiful birthday dinner. He puts so much time and effort into making her happy. That's a sign of true love. This is also proven when Forney helps Novalee a lot to take care of Americus, hwe is the closest thing Americus has to a father. So in the end, yes I do believe that Forney is the guy for Novalee
#2. To answer your other question, no I do not agree with Novalee's choice of name for her baby. Sure Americus is a strong name, but it's not necessarily a good one. I find that Americus isn't a great name for a person. it's the name of a country, and therefore not a name for a child. You wouldn't name a child "Canadias" so why would you name someone "Americus"?
ReplyDelete#3. Benny Goodluck is a Native American boy why lives with his tribe on a reserve near the town Novalee is in. During her first week in town, Novalee receives a buckeye tree from Benny "for good luck". Benny Goodluck was running naked in the forest to honour his grandfather. His grandfather had passed away, so to honour him Benny had to give up something he loved. The thing he decided to give up was running. so the day he was running naked in the forest was the last day he had to run so he was taking advantage of his final day.
ReplyDelete#4. I believe that Toby wasn't ever really looking for a real relationship with Novalee. He just wanted sex from the beginning. I think he had sex with her and left her because that's all she was good for in his mind. This signifies that Toby was not a good guy for Novalee in the first place. Novalee needs someone to lover her. Not someone that's just looking for sex.
ReplyDelete#5. I believe that Sister Husband decided not to go to the cellar because she had lived long enough to fulfill her dreams in life and was happy with what she had. She had lived a nice long happy life and didn't want to go on so she didn't want to go in the cellar.
ReplyDelete#6. Novalee kisses Benny Goodluck because Novalee feels bad for him. She pity's him because he hasn't had his first kiss, he isn't popular, he didn't have a date to the prom, Benny Goodluck is such a nice boy and Novalee thought he deserved better and she decided she should at least give him his first kiss.
ReplyDelete#7. Novalee lied to Forney to protect him. She had recently discovered that he was still young and he hadn't ever gotten the chance to go out and explore the world on his own yet and she thought he deserved that. She knew that if she told him the truth he would stay with her, loosing his one chance to explore and have a real life. She lied to him so he could live a better life.
ReplyDelete#8. Novalee still helped Willy Jack because despite everything he did to her, Novalee is a kind hearted person and is too nice to let Willy Jack suffer. She learned a lot about acceptance and love while living with Sister Husband and everyone else. She has become a new person and decided the best thing to do was to help Willy Jack. Also, if it weren't for Willy Jack, Novalee wouldn't be where she is today. He ditched her at the Wal-Mart, but that act was a blessing in disguise. She met so many amazing people, and even fell in love, all because Willy Jack abandoned her in that town. So she must have realized this and not have been all that angry
ReplyDelete#9. Lexie overcame her fear of men by meeting Leon. Leon treats Lexi right, showing her that not all men are horrible and she falls in love with him. Finding the right guy was what ended Lexi's fear of men.
ReplyDelete#10. The experience Brummet was put through was scarring, so no I do not think he will ever be completely the same. Although, Leon is a very good influence in his life. I believe that with all the help he is getting from Lexi, Leon and the therapists Brummet can adjust to be happy again, but he will never be the same.
